Thu, 16 June, 5-10pm
Fri, 17 Juni, 1-10pm
Sat, 18 June, 10am – 10pm
The Pride Park which is located at the Sigmund-Freud-Park right in front the Votive Church will be opened from 16 June to 18 June. At the Park there will be a diverse programme: NGOs presenting their work, community businesses offering drinks and national and international live acts on a large stage to entertain the visitors.
On Saturday from 10am the crowd warms up for the Pride Parade which itself starts at 3pm close to the Pride Park and moves along Vienna’s Ringstraße. At 7pm the front of the parade is expected back at the Sigmund-Freud-Park where the closing rally, the so-called Celebration, with Speeches and live music takes place.
21st Regenbogenparade (Rainbow Parade) – 18 June 2016
Bringing down borders
„Bringing down borders“ is the slogan of the 21st Pride Parade moving along Vienna’s Ringstraße on 18 June 2016 which will once again entice well over 100,000 people to the streets.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual, trans, intersex and cis people together will demonstrate in support of a society free of discrimination in Austria, and everywhere in the world.
This year’s parade begins at 3pm at the Sigmund-Freud-Park (Schottengasse), where from 10am the warm up takes place at the Pride Park, and gets moving in the direction of traffic. The route takes in the Börse (the stock exchange), Franz-Josefs-Kai, Schwedenplatz, Urania, Stubenring, Opera, the parliament, the University and back to Sigmund-Freud-Park, where the final rally, the so-called Celebration, will take place including speeches as well as national and international live acts.
Photo area and jury
In the 75m long photo zone, set up immediately after the start, all registered groups have the opportunity to present their contribution, not only to a flock of photographers, but also to a jury. The jury, made up of representatives from the local and international community, will select their favourite contributions in the categories “pedestrian groups”, “small vehicles” and “trucks and semi-trailers” according to the message, the creativity and the realisation of the contribution.
Jury 2016: Nicole Alecu de Flers (Verlag Zaglossus), Dorretta Carter (Soul singer), Yavuz Kurtulmus (MiGaY), Dina Malandi (ZARA), Gorji Marzban (ORQOA, VIMÖ, QueerBase), Maja Radosavljević (Transition), Björn Zahn (HOSI Linz).
Moment of remembrance
At 5pm, the Rainbow Parade will pause for a minute and, in a “moment of remembrance”, recall all those who are not able to celebrate with us because they have died from the immune deficiency disease, AIDS, or were victim of a violent crime because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
The front of the parade is expected back at Sigmund-Freud-Park at 7pm.
Despite its exuberant party atmosphere, the Rainbow Parade is an important political demonstration. Therefore, HOSI Wien is calling upon all parade participants and spectators to express their concerns with banners, t-shirts, etc.
